High pitched whine

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer, 5.4l, 2 wheel drive, automatic transmission that is making a high pitched whine at idle and on decelleration. As long as I am accellerating the whine is not there. Only when I let off the peddle and more prominent at lower speeds - under 35mph. My first guess is throttle control but would like a second opinion. Thanks.

Yes it does whine in park and neutral. It only goes away when pressure applied to the accellerator pedal. Event he slightest pressure makes it stop, but once you let off it comes back. Seems to get better as I drive it but never really goes away.

There is a Tech bulliten on Ford truck trannys, for a whistle or hissing at idle. Refernce# 98-5-14 States the seperator plate may need to be replaced, on Explorer its two hours labor, plus the parts.

Does that include while driving, because it makes the noise while tranny engaged, not just in park/neutral. Thanks.

Does not say, but as time goes on, usually stuff gets worse. So maybe, but any Ford dealer, or good tranny shop will know!
