The vents are run by vacuum. When you accelerate, the vacuum drops in the engine which is causing the vents to close. You have a vacuum leak. CHeck under the dash and under the hood. With the engine running, you may actually be able to hear a hissing sound that would indicate a leak, but a vacuum leak is what you are looking for.
