Hi - Ford 01 Expedition - the air conditioner works great, when I have it on vent or defroster it has a smell. When I have it on defroster and turn the temp up, it has a burning smell to it and smoke was coming up from the vent. So I turned it off. But again, the Air works fine with no smells. Temp gauge does not rise.

Any ideas!

It sounds like you have a bad heater core. If they have a small leak, coolant will come out and it has a bad smell to it. Also, it could cause steam to come through the venting system. When this happens, do you get a slimy residue on the windshield? Is there anything damp on the passanger side floor?
