V8 two wheel drive automatic. Where is the cabin air filter? I see one in the rear when I open the hatch. It smells like there is on under the dash. How do I change this one?

Thanks, BO.

Hello BONNETMK,

To replace the cabin air filter follow this guide to let you know what you are in for in this job.

It is located under the right side of the instrument panel in the HVAC housing. Trim panel may have to be removed to gain access to filter.

See Fig. 1.

I recently purchased a cabin filter for my vehicle and I cannot find how to change it. The inside smells old, and I want to change that. Thanks.

Hi there,

Removal and Installation:

Cabin air filter is available as an optional dealer-installed kit. Cabin air filter installation instructions are included with the kit. If a filter is already installed, it is located under the right side of the instrument panel in the HVAC housing. Trim panel may have to be removed to gain access to filter

Hi, I need to replace my cabin air filter for my SUV XLT (45,000 miles). Hoping to save a few dollars from this. I bought the filter but do not want to tear off the whole dash just to get to it. Can someone provide step by step assistance please. Did not really want to sign up and pester anyone but I did not see a "how-to" solution. I am hoping that mine will get a response. Thank you.

You probably do not have on your truck as this is a dealer install option. So unless it was ordered it does not have one. Now if it does it is located under the right side of the instrument panel. So remove the lower panel and check to see if you have one.

The red circle indicates where the cover is clipped on. Pull it downwards to get the clip off and you can see the cover for the cabin filter.
