My wife's Expedition starts vibrating during slight acceleration with what seems to be a loss of power or surging. I can accelerate through this and it seems to go away while maintaining a steady speed. The check engine light came on the other evening but I disconnected the battery to check other items and the code has not reappeared.
The engine is the 5.4L Triton. In the past two days I have replaced the spark plugs, checked the resistance on the coils, replaced the fuel filter, and cleaned the EGR valve. I sprayed WD40 around all hoses and I don't hear or see any vacuum leaks.
Any suggestions?

Those had alot of problems with coils shorting intermittently or under load. The PCM may have stored the code in the memory codes, otherwise your best bet may be to get on the road and replicate the problem to get it to light the check engine light. This will most likely point towards the cylinder that is having the problem
