1997 Ford Expedition Steering Column

I have an on and off knocking/ratting noise in my steering column. Some times it goes days without making a noise and then all of a sudden it kicks in and sounds like a bunch of bolts rattling inside a cofffee can. Not horribly loud but very persistent.

The only thing that could be cauing that is something plastic or a screw has come out and is rolling around. All you can do is start at the steering wheel and begin removing parts until you find the cause of the noise.
