1997 Ford Expedition grinding

when i am at a stop and i take off straight it goes with no noises or grinding. when i turn my wheel and take a left or right when stopped it grinds and it feels like the tranny is not grabbing. It doesnt do it any other time. My 4x4 and allwheel drive doesnt engage also. I dont if the 2 have anything to do with each other. Thank you

Hi:
It sounds like the transfer case isn't fully engaged in a gear. What you need to do is check if the 4wd actuator motor on the transfer case is getting power to change gears. If it is, replace the motor. If it isn't have the switch checked.
