I have an 99 ford escort with about 116,000 miles on it I had the CEL come on I went to take the emmissions test( I knew it would fail) to get the reason why it came back error code P0401 insufficient flow detected. So I changed the EGR valve and disconnected the battery to hopefully clear the code. I drove it around a little to see if the light would come back on, it didn't so I went to try and take the emissions test again and they said something about the computer couldn't link with the car. So i'm wondering is the car's computer still erroring out without the CEL coming on, I have driven the car about 100 miles now without the light coming on. Did I not really clear the code? Why wouldn't it link with the emissions computer?

Not a great way to clear codes! If you did clear it, you must drive several cycles for the PCM to finish running it's system checks on the emissions, what shows on the scantool is "not complete" usually you must shut the car off take out the key, cool down, and then, do it again, normally about 150 miles should do! If you have an autozone near you, have them scan it, they do it free.
