I've done mine several times without removing that engine support. I had to find almost the perfect wrench and bend it a bit in my vise to get it arounf the support. I can see where some cars this may be difficult depending on where the flexible engine mounts are letting the engine sit-- as the mounts get old and sag, the engine/transmission sits closer to the support. If you find that you must remove the support, you might as well replace the 3 engine mounts on the LH side because they're probably bad-- not expensive either. Two of the mounts are bolted into the support with two nuts each. The 3rd one is under the battery tray and not difficult to replace either. You will need to support the engine while you do this. I usually use my screw jack undeneath the transaxle housing. The most difficult part is to get all the mounting holes(8 of them) to line up again!
