car runs great in park or when heater or air is off but when in gear and heater is on the car starts idling rough if i barely give it gas it runs perfect again the car only has 70000 miles on it

I bought an 02 Escort last September. It was extremely clean and had 105,000 miles. The only problem I had was exactly what you described. I took it back to the dealer and at his expense, he replaced the motor mounts. It helped alot, but it did not completely illiminate the vibration. I discovered that this problem was the result of a manufacturing issue with 02 Escorts and Tracers. There is a pdf document that you can read and/or give to your mechanic.
