2002 Ford Escort Heater blows cold air

I just bought this Escort and the heater blows cold air. Would I be wrong in thinking the thermostat is stuck open and need replacing? The tempature on the guage builds up to normal operating tempature.

Might be plugged up, or the heater control valve (if equipped) isnt working not letting hot water in. Do the heater hoses get hot? If engine temp is normal, probably not the t-stat

Thanks for your help......I found the problem.....Where you switch from cold to hot, the mechinism had come off the shaft that switches it.....
