2001 Ford Escort timing belt

Hi, My timing belt went this morning on the motorway. I can see that the belt is loose and when the ignition is turned the cogs spinning the belt move slightly, do you know from this if the valves will be seized or broke.. or will it just be a need of a new timing belt

Did the timing belt break while you were driving? If it did, you will have at least a couple of bent exhaust valves,
