2001 Ford Escort

I want to put in a aftermarket radio. I have a used heater control plate to install the new stereo. my problem is I'm not sure how to get the old stereo out. something seems to be holding it in. I believe its the two heater controls on the left and center. not sure how they come off the center(temp setting)control has a cable going to it and the stereo doesnt come out enough to get a good look at.
