I have a 2000 Ford Escort SE with 106,000 miles. Last night, I started the engine and it idled really low, then when I put it in gear it stalled. Ran fine once I got it in gear, but still idling low. This morning, it started right up and ran fine, but after 15 minutes started running hot. I've had this car for 10 years and the gauge has never gone above center. I checked the coolant and it's fine. The last time it ever stalled on me the problem turned out to be a broken hose. Could that be the problem here?

the engine coolant temp sensor, and the idle air control valve may be dually the problem here, the coolant temp sensor, retards the injector pulse (fuel) if it senses the the coolant is too hot or too cold, not only that ,that is where the temp gauge gets its readings from , also the IAC,(idle air control valve) obviously controls the idle, I would also clean the throttlebody and throttle plate too. , change the coolant temp sensor first then see how it goes. proceed with the other things if you dont see any change in the idle
