1999 Ford Escort Check light on and gas mileage is awful

Engine Cooling problem
1999 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My check light came on about 3 days ago and the code said somthing like 'cooling temp.' And ever since then my gas mileage is awful. I FILL UP every day. How do I fix it. I have checked all the fluid levels and they are all normal.

Hi
you need to replace the coolant temp sensor.
This sensor tells your pcm the eng temp. It mixes fuel according to the info it gets from this sensor.

If it is bad it causes the pcm to mix too much fuel. This sensor is located near the tstat housing. It will be a two or three wire sensor. Not to be confused with the single wire temp sensor that tells your guage what the temp is
