1999 Ford Escort answer to noise quest.

In response to your noise question, I had the same problem not to long ago, a loud noise coming from the engine, and just as you said, at high RPM's it would go away. At first I thought it was the belt, but it wasnt, IT TURNED OUT TO BE A PCV VALVE on the front right side of the engine that was making the sqeeling noise. It cost a couple dollers to replace.
