1999 Ford Escort Alternator! Please HELP!

Hi. My alternator on my car has gone bad! After calling around and finding the lowest price of $600.00 to get it fixed, I have now decided to try to get my father and brother to try to put a new one in for me.

The problem is, they have never worked on a Ford Escort before, so they are not sure how to put the Alternator into this car. How to loosen the belt or anything else. If anyone knows anything about this car and changing the alternator, please help. I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

Rachel; not sure I can help you much on this one but the best advice I can give you would be go to the local parts house and get a chiltons book on this car. For one reason the belt routing on this car is a nightmare and two it will give you all the info you need to do the job. (NOS) again sorry. I have done some but it is really hard to explain this way.
