1998 Ford Escort oil leak

There is an oil leak coming somewhere from the back of the motor. It is thicker than the oil in the crankcase, I would like to know if you have any ideas as to where and what this may be from? There is also a tapping sound coming from the valve cover area when car is cold.

could be from oil pressure switch ?? .. repair leak .. add good oil addative and a thicker grade oil to the engine ...VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT
Hydraulic valve tappets are used. No valve adjustment is required.
