1998 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 120k miles

My ZX2 will not start. Ran fine then one day just did not start. The battery is in good shape as the fuel pump primes up and stereo comes on. Turn the key and nothing, no starter noise, just dead silence. I always had to put the clutch in to start the vehicle and do not know where to start with the problem. Any help would be great.
