My car just clicks when you try to start it, so I am going to replace the start but need step by step instructions on how to remove the old starter and put in the new one

Is it just one click and stops, or is it continuous clicking? One click and stop is your starter, the other one is your battery.

Before I do I write up on your starter removal and assembly, please verify your vehicle particulars. I am not aware of any Escort with 6 cylinders. From the factory it came as 2.0 4-cylinder, either single or dual OHC.
