there is no warning light, the boy I spoke to had a look and he reckons that it is cylinder three, the plugs, leads and coil pack are all new and there is good spark coming through the leads, the boy also reckoned it was a strip down job

First we need to know what the problem is. If there is a bad valve, then there will be 0 psi compression in the affected cylender. Also, if there is a miss, the check engine light should come on. Scanning the computer will indicate which cylender is bad.

Has anything been checked? THis could be as easy as replacing a spark plug.
