Transmission problem
1997 Ford Escort Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 80,000 miles

My car was running really low on oil and before I added more, I noticed that oil was spilling out and dripping from the underside of the hood. I added a bottle of oil and the next morning after driving to work, I found that oil was still spilling out. I have had an oil change in a long time. Could this be what's causing it?

Do you mean the engine is leaking oil from somwhere? If go to a do it yourself car wash, wash the engine and engine bay with degreaser, then rinse, you will find a leak a lot easier on a clean engine, now start the engine and look around for leaks, look at top and bottom of the engine...as far as oil change intervals go, by not changing or check oil, you are asking for a premature engine failure!
The second that engine looses oil pressure, you will need a new one!
