Hey, my check engine light came on and I was wondering if there was a way to check the codes without having to buy a code reader or take it to a parts store or dealership?

If you don't have a diagnostic code scanner and you don't want to take it to have it checked for free at a local auto part store then. No there is no other way to retrieve the trouble codes.
