start by thoroughly cleaning the area then run the car and watch for the fluid leaking out. if its the pump, dont try to fix it, just install a new one.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STATIONARY FOR A WEEK AND PUMP LEAKS MORE NOW THAN IT DID DURING TRANSIT(?). WILL TRY YOUR ADVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED (FIRST BURST RADIATOR & THEN BROKEN WATER PUMP) - PUMP WAS CLEAN WHEN IT WENT IN, IT CAME BACK FILTHY FROM THE MECHANIC.
