1996 Ford Escort Hard Shifting

My 1996 is shifting very hard from gear to gear. Transmission shop ran the check engine code and stated the O2 sensor needed to be replaced. We did so, but the problem is still there. Also the car is running through gas very fast. 1/2 tank for 110 kms.

The 02 sensors will not effect gear shift patterns on your car .. some transmission faults will not display fault codes .. only electrical faults will display a fault code ... if the torque convertor is faulty or clutch plates or you have a pressure leakage internally they will not have a fault code
