Transmission problem
1995 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 195k miles

Symptoms: 1st day car would shift into all gears but it would rev up a little more before shifting into 3rd and 4th gear. 2nd day driving home it wouldnt shift past 2nd gear. i could rev it up and wouldnt even try to shift.

Things I have checked: i just did a transmisson fluid and filter change but i checked the level and color of it and it was fine. i tryed starting it in a gear other then park or nuetral. so i dont think its the nuetral safty switch. i also disconnected the battery for 30 secs to reset computer didnt change nothing (hoping to reset shift selioids)

Possible solutions im thinking that somewhere between the transmisson and the computer there is some corrosion in a plug. i have also talked to a guy and he said that behind a computer center councole there is 2 plugs that if you have had a leaky heater core that there will probably be corrosion there any other ideas from you guys would be helpful.

Have you been losing coolant or have any signs of a leaky core?

IS this the original tranny? May be time for a rebuild.

Are there any transmission codes?

Make sure the nuetal saftey switch housing is not cracked or if the mounting screws are loose.
