1995 Ford Escort shifting

My speed ometer does not work. The car will not shift into 2nd gear. Does the speed omiter cable have anything to do with that or is it just the speed control sencor or maybe something else?

Speedometer has nothing to do with the trans not shifting. Need to check your speed sensors, input and output.
