1995 Ford Escort cooling fan

The radiator cooling fan works when battery power is applied. However, it does not seem to come on automatically when the engine is hot. How do you check ther thermostat for the fan and where is it?

Did some one rewire it for
I would check any wiring was done and need to know why?(Car had an overheating problem may be )
check coolant fan switch beside thermostat
check relay

Relay is in the relay box under the hood

coolant sensor switch is at rear left of the engine
