Yesterday I went to start my car and all it did was crank, like it was going to start but didn't.( I noticed 2 days ago that it took a few extra secs to start my car). So I took my wifes car to work, came home from work thinking where should I start to find out whats wrong. I jumped in and it started right up smelled a little rich but started right up. Now I don't want to be trying to fix my car in 30 below weather so I would prefer to fix it now. Can you give me some advise on what to look for first, second and so on. By the way it started just fine this morning and I took it to work.

Next time it refuses to start don't wait for nothing-Do below:

disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor /distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, ECM, Ignitor camshaft and crankshaft sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

If both fuel pressure and blue spark is present-check the valve and ignition timing, this will lead you to problems with compression and valves opening and closing at the wrong time/broken or jumped timing belt/chain
