Transmission problem
1993 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My 1993 Escort made an hour trip and when it slowed down it stopped. I had it towed in to keep from doing further damamge and spoke with a local mechanic who advised me to changethe filter and fluid and see if it would help. He also suggested a titanium blend be added but I haven't yet purchsed that...However after the fluid and filter change it seems better but I don't think it is changing into 3rd gear..I haven't firven it over 45 MPH..it has cold start and I have to put it in low to get it back down there.could it be the range sensor or something else. I just can't see putting a $1500 rebuild into a $500 car. Any suggestions, mechnaic suggeted getting it scanned...does it have a computer?

yes yor car has a computer with on board diagnostic known as obd if your check engine light is not on your computer has no codes stored however if it is on you can take your car to a nationally recognized parts store(like autozone) and those places will usually scan it for free
