I have a 1991 ford escort gt. The timing belt broke what I was wondering was are the valves 0 clearance and if not can I just put the timing belt on and it should start and run. The eng. Is a 1.8 L 16 VALVE dual over head cams.

These engines are concidered non interference type.
So the pistions and valves should not have contact with one another if the camshaft and crankshaft rotate in different direction after timing belt breaks.
This is true with my 1992 escort gt. 1.8L I am assuming the same for the 1991. Allthough would bet my car on it. Good advise to get a manual. If you dont't want to spend the bucks on one. Your major library should have a shop manual for your specipic year. Good luck. I dig these cars
