I have a 1989 Ford Escort with an automatic transmission. I spilled a cup of tea on the shift console. Now only reverse and first gear operate, no second or third gear. I pulled the console cover and dried things out - still doesn't work. I was told the problem might be the PRNDL switch/sensor (senses the position of the shift lever), which is in the engine compartment. Anyone had experience with this sensor? I'm not sure what it looks like or exactly where to locate it. If it did get wet, will drying it out fix the problem? I welcome any ideas or suggestions. Thanks - Kevin

I m not a tranny tech but

Spilling a cup of coffee in the shifter console area
I don't believe will effect the tranny operation
check tranny fluid and tranny it self
PND21 switch or neutral safety switch is located at the tranny
check shifter cable
check throttle pressure adjustment
