Ford Escape stalling issue

2004 Ford Escape 4WD, 120,000 miles, 3.0L Duratec Engine, 6 cylinder, fuel injection catalyst, 4 speed automatic

We have had a problem with our Escape and the engine stalling. Sometimes when starting the truck it doesn't fully start. Then it takes several tries to get it to stay started. Basically you have to start it while keeping your foot on the gas. Even when breaking, the gas must be depressed slightly or the truck stalls. This usually goes on for a 5-10 minutes then it seems to reset itself and works fine. This only happens maybe once or twice a month. Any suggestions :

I have the same problem. I went to a ford dealership and they said it was an idle valve sticking.

I bought some carborator cleaner and cleaned the idle air control valve located on top of the engine. Just take off 2 bolts and connector. Used carb cleaner to get all the carbon deposites out. Now when I start vehicle the idle is 1500 instead of the 1k I was getting. So far it has fixed my problem. It seems to be a common problem with escapes. Most people will say its the fuel pump or fuel pump regulator. In must cases it is but in this case it the IAC valve. Try cleaning it if not you might need to replace it with the oem valve. Non oem valves dont work. Now the car starts everytime without hesitation. Carb cleaner is only $2 or $3 at your local auto part store.

Please read my post "Starting problem when hot, also irregular engine performance". It sounds like we have a similar problem.
You may want to monitor my post as well. If my problem is resolved, you might find the answer to yours.
