2008 Ford Escape sunroof

I heard a crunching noise when opening the sunroof. It would not close with the switch. It would open but had to be forcibly closed. Now I hear a click sound but it won't move open or closed. Any ideas?

something must be broken, or out of alignment on the regulator.

you'll have to take things apart enough to be able to visually inspect, and watch the moving parts while you push the button.
