Pinpoint Test AR: The STOP SAFELY NOW Warning Is Inoperative/Always On
Normal Operation
The stop safely now display informs the driver that there is a problem with the Hybrid electrical
system and that an impending vehicle shut down is about to occur. The instrument cluster (IC)
receives the hazard input from a message over the high speed controller area network (HS - CAN)
communication bus from the PCM, the transmission control module (TCM) and the traction
battery control module (TBCM).
NOTE: The instrument cluster (IC) turns on both the hazard warning indicator in the instrument cluster (IC) and displays the stop safely now warning simultaneously when a problem or fault has been
detected in any of the 3 modules (PCM, TCM or TBCM).
If the hazard status message is missing from the PCM or if the data is deemed invalid by the instrument cluster (IC) for more than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster (IC) sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory. If the hazard status message is missing from the TCM or if the data is deemed invalid by the instrument cluster (IC) for more than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster (IC) sets DTC U0101 in continuous memory. If the hazard status message is missing from the TBCM
or if the data is deemed invalid by the instrument cluster (IC) for more than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster (IC) sets DTC U0111 in continuous memory.
If any one of the 3 messages are missing with the other two valid, the instrument cluster (IC)
defaults the STOP SAFELY NOW warning to the last observable state (on or off). If all 3 messages are missing and the instrument cluster (IC) does not see an ignition switch transition into RUN/START, the instrument cluster (IC) defaults the STOP SAFELY NOW warning to the last observable state (on or off).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
"Â PCM concern
"Â TCM concern
"Â TBCM concern
"Â Instrument cluster (IC)
Instrument Cluster (IC) Dealer Test Mode
To enter the instrument cluster (IC) dealer test mode, press and hold the trip odometer reset button
(base cluster) or the message center RESET button (message center cluster). Turn the ignition
switch to the RUN position and continue to hold the trip odometer or RESET button until the
display indicates tESt, usually within 3 to 5 seconds. Press the trip odometer reset button once to
advance through each stage of the self -test.
To exit the instrument cluster (IC) dealer test mode, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
