2005 Ford Escape warranty coverage

I was on I-95,went to pass a car and my car poped & died.My car was towed to dealership where they told me computer died and that 2 electric coils fried and caused the problem.Good news is the computor is covered under warranty.Bad news is they are telling me that the coils and wiring are not,and that the two coils ,plugs,wires,and two intake gaskets will run me $ 970.00. Should'nt all this be covered by the 8 year 80000 mile emisions warranty?Shouldn't they be changing all 6 coils If there is a problem?What coarse of action if any can I take?

Only the computer falls into that period of coverage for emissions of those items. I am surprised that they are covering the PCM as it was a victim of the problem, not the source. Replacing all 6 coils may be a good idea, but who is going to pay for it?

Don't get me wrong, I understand your frustration but what they are saying is typical of the factory warranties.

This article supersedes TSB 05-11-1 to update the Service Procedure and Part List.

ISSUE
Some 2005-2006 Escape/Mariner vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine, may exhibit a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with two or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for coil on plug (COP) primary circuit faults (P0351 through P0356). This may be due to the spark plugs causing RF interference with the powertrain control module (PCM), resulting in damage to the PCM and COPs.

Appearantly an engineering flaw that the customer get stuck with. IF it was mine I think I would take this as high as I could go with ford to attempt to get it taken care of. Since you are a customer of the dealership, they may bend the rules.

Not sure how they are itemizing it but it sounds high.
The plugs call for 2.4 hours. To rplace them the colis have to come off and the intake m,anifold has to come off. so that's $240 ($100/hr?) 6 plugs are another 75, 2 coils at 130 is 260. intakle gaskets another 20..I'm seeing $600 excluding tax, towing and diagnosis...
