2004 Ford Escape hestation going up a hill or in idle

My ford has a hestation in idle and going up a hill at lower speeds usly under 50mph, if you give it fuel it will strighiten up. I have put new fuel filter on it and a new PCV valve and it is still doing it. Can anyone give me a idal what and where to start? and the check engin light is not on but oil light has flickered some.

You did fuel filter with out the mention of a tune up plug and wires …..
if not done that yet need to do so as a 1st step
also consider having the timing belt check
you are at that mileage if timing belt was never changed before have to check it and change soon

check and replace oil pressure switch
