I've recently had problems with my 2002 ford escape. While driving home the other night I began to loose power and throttle response, shortly after that the egr valve body blew a hole. I replaced the egr valve and still not responding with much power or acceleration. then last night on my way home again it blew out again. Is there a filter or something that could be blocking the vacuum line that opens the egr valve that may be the cause of this problem?

Sounds like one or more Catalytic Converter is plugged. The plugging is usually caused by raw fuel. Was the engine misfireing?
This is a common problem in Escapes.
