2002 Ford Escape 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

In the past 6 months I have had 2 EGR valves fail, with a hole blown out of both of them. What can cause a failure like this to occur. I need to find the source of this, rather than keep replacing EGR valves.

The hole is actually in the aluminum housing, right in line with the hose going to the exhaust. Ford service dept. Had never seen this. Their only suggestion was to bring it in after the new valve was on and do a backpressure check.

Let me know what you find. If there is too much back pressure, it could be causing the problem. A converter could be plugged and building pressure.

Let me know.

I have replaced 1 EGR valve on an 2002 ford escape. It failed and blew a hole in the side. I was told my a shop that it was due to a plugged converter building too much pressure.
