Problem Description: I have a 2001 Ford E150 ClubWagon with the 5.4L Engine. The van has 125,000 miles on it. On a typical humid/moist Florida morning, after the vehicle has been sitting over night, the vehicle will start usually the first time without incident. After driving a short distance of 2-3 miles and stopping. Upon returning to the vehicle after an hour or so, the vehicle will start and then immediately stall. The only way to keep it running is to keep my foot on the accelerator. Even while driving, if I remove my foot from the accelerator, the vehicle will stall. Also, when the vehicle is running normally, if I am driving and let up on the accelerator, the van will "chug or sputter" as though it wants to stall even at speeds of 40-50 MPH. The PCV valve has been recently changed. Air filter is clean. When the air outside is dry and later in the day, the vehicle does not seem to have the same problem.

When was the last tune up? Next read the codes even if the check engine light is not lit. Freeze frame data could be stored, next check fuel pressure. You may have a vacuum leak, get a can of spray gumout, spray the vac lines and maniflod area, when the idle changes, youve found the leak! You want the engine running and spray on the outside but do direct the stream onto the hoses, if it is a vacuum leak, the engine idle will change speed, then you have detected a leak, repair the vacuum leak and see how it runs!
