I have a 97 e250 4.2L v-6 the alternator is not charging and the battery charged up ok but dies after a mile or so of driving. The battery tested at 650 cca but needs to be replaced. My question is the voltage regulator on this vehicle in the alternator or is that a part I should check before I replace the alternator.

Hello,

Test the alternator output to the battery. It should be 13.6V to 15.2V.

Here is a helpful video of how to do the test:

The voltage regulator is mounted on the alternator and it usually gets replaced with the alternator as a complete unit.

I have attached the alternator replacement as well as testing procedure for your reference.

Pleas let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
