My van ran fine but began making a high -pitched whining sound, sounded just like a weed eater, after about fifty miles of this sound it began to backfire and lurch while driving. Then the engine cut out and although the van would start it would only run for 2 or 3 minutes. I replaced the fuel filter, plugs, distributer cap, had the timing, ignition and catalytic converter checked out. After replacing the fuel pump the problem seemed to be fixed but after a week of driving ,Deja Vu. Same sound followed by sputtering, backfiring and engine dying. What else
should I look at?
