Recently at night my battery gauge will dip down to the O when i press on my brakes. All i will have running are the headlights and maybe the heater. I use to run a car stereo in the vehicle. Could it be my alternator going bad on me?

Could be? If this was an old police car or had a sound system in it could be a short in a loose wire.
