jerry it sounds to like the IAC motor is bad. (Idle air control ). it is a round cyclinder looking theng that sets up on top of the throttle body it has two wires hooked to it.It may need a good cleaning. dont get carb cleaner back into is motor split the two peices and then clean the cyclinder real good.open the throttle plate and spray around in there real good spray it on a rag and wipe both sides of the throttle plate real good.CAUTION if the tps is laying on the bottom side of the throttle plate do not get carb cleaner in it.or it is dun for. Suggested Repair

Clean or replace the idle air control (IAC) motor on the throttle body. Carefully clean the throttle plate and bore without getting carburetor cleaner into the IAC motor or throttle position sensor.

Conversation Summary

A 1996 Ford Crown Victoria starts and runs only with the accelerator pressed and stalls as soon as the pedal is released. The expert suggested a faulty or dirty idle air control motor and recommended cleaning the IAC and throttle plate carefully, avoiding cleaner contact with the TPS.
