2004 Ford Crown Victoria V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Does it take a special tool to depress the diff clutch spring into the space between the axle gears?

If it is an "s" shaped spring, just use a screwdriver to pry it out of the spider and side gears. It should come out fairly easily.
