1997 Ford Crown Victoria engine knocking and missing

Last time I drove the car it was running fine. Shut it off and went back out to it a couple of hours later. Started it and it was knocking and missing badly.
Tried starting it again about 8 hours later, and it runs even worse - sounds like it is only hitting on a couple of cylinders.
Can a faulty O2 sensor cause this or is it possibly something else???

sound like it could be faulty coil packs
