1997 Ford Crown Victoria codes

My computer codes are P0171, P0174 which is the MAF and maybe some other things how do I yest the existing MAF and what resistance to be sure its defective? Cause once its installed its not returnable! Thanks lowellt

Actually, the correct code definitions are for P0171 and P0174 are "lean benk 1, " and "lean bank 2" (repsectively). These codes are not usually set by the MAF, although they can be on rare occurances. These codes are set by severe vaccum leaks, usually hoses or a collapsed PCV hose. If it is a vaccum leak, you should hear the sucking sound of the vaccum under the hood with the engine running. If you do not, you may want to have it smoke tested to determine if is coming from intake gaskets.
