Hi,
I have a 1990 Crown Victoria Wagon-181000 miles.
whenever I drive quite a bit, upon stopping at a light I hear a banging noise coming from the engine. I believe it has something to do with the coolant getting hot. I felt the upper large coolant hose and felt it hot and pulsing.
would anyone know why I hear this banging noise coming from the engine when coolant gets hot. The car never overheats and rides smoothly. Is it possible I have to change my thermostat?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

Yes it is possible you need a new thermostat. Or possibly the radiator needs a good cleaning. The water may not be flowing throught it good enough. May also be hotter than it shows (NOS)

Have the motor mounts been checked? Most times that is the problem with stopping and having a clunk sound from the motor.
