I am replacing the engine in my 1999 Escort ZX2, has 60,000 miles, auto transmission and it had the 2.0L DOHC Z-tech. The VIN code is a 3 for the engine. My question is whether one of these two engines I found will fit it. One is a 2000 Ford Contour that is a 2.0 DOHC Z-tech also with a 3 as an engine code or the second choice is from a 1998 Ford Contour that is also a 2.0 DOHC Z-tech with a 3 as an engine code. Is there an easy way to check to make sure they will fit? Any other issues I should watch out for?

Thanks

While the engine MAY fit just fine, you will need to make sure all the electrical/accessory/coolant etc. connections are the same. You most likely will only be able to replace the short or long block with the contour model, and need to keep your ignition, fuel and emissions systems. Hope this helps.
