I have a 1995 Ford contour, equipped with a 2.0 dual overhead cam 4 cylinder eng. With about 130,000
miles on it. Just recently I was cruising down the highway at about 60 mph. When my car cut off. All attempts to restart the car failed, so I towed it home. After I got it home I did a compression test on all 4 cylinders, and found them all to be around 170 psi. No problems there. I also found that my fan belt was missing. After replacing the fan belt, the car still wouldnt start, so I made sure it was firing by placing a spare spark plug in each wire, and turning the engine over. The car is firing fine. I also have heard the fuel pump come on as soon as I turn the ignition on. I am totally at my wits end, can someone please give me some advise. Any information will be apreciated.

Was the battery dead when you died along the road? Is there good charge in the battery now? Just because the fuel pump activates does not mean you are getting gas to the engine. The fuel filter is a long the way and of course the injectors as well. That is assuming that you have gas and the pressure from the pump is sufficient.

If your cranking motor turns but engine doesn't,
it could be either the pinion not engaged or pinion slips.
-check if the cranking motor is realigned to flywheel
if pinion slips is the cause, replace defective drive.

For the guy who responded to my question and said that it could be my pinion slipping. This may make sense. When I am trying to start the car it makes a sound like the starter is turning, but the motor isnt spinning at full potential. Why would this suddenly start happening when the belt broke, and left me beside the road? But anyway, this seems to go along with the symtoms that im having. Also I noticed that when I was doing the compression test that when the car was making this noise it built no compression, but eventually it seemed to kick in. I can see the motor turning over, whether its making the slipping sound or not, but maybe its not turning over enough to start the car. Thank you guys sooo much, im going to take my strter off, and have it tested immediately. And is there any simple way to
test my fuel pump? And yes, the battery was fully charged when the car broke down, and is fully charged now
